Hearing Loss
Hearing loss is one of the biggest health concerns in the U.S. It is the third most commonly reported physical condition, following arthritis and heart disease. It affects roughly 20 percent of the American population and can strike people of all ages. The most common causes of hearing loss are noise exposure and aging.
Diagnostic Hearing Evaluation
Audiology evaluations consist of a series of tests used to determine whether a hearing loss exists and, if so, measure its type, degree and configuration. An audiologist will assess the results of each individual test in order to develop a treatment plan geared toward your unique hearing loss.
Evaluation for Hearing Aids
There are several steps that are part of a hearing aid evaluation. If you suspect that you might need a hearing aid, you will first need to have a hearing evaluation. At the time of the hearing evaluation, a case history will be taken to determine how much your hearing problem impacts your day-to-day life as well as the lives of your family. You may also have to provide some basic questions about your general health history.

Equally important is the fitting, which involves programming your hearing aids and making adjustments to provide the correct levels of amplification for your particular hearing loss. This perception of sound may affect one or both ears, and can range from a minor nuisance to a constant distraction. Tinnitus is considered a symptom rather than a disease and is usually the result of an underlying condition. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to relieve the noise and improve your quality of life.
Earwax Removal
Earwax (cerumen) is a yellowish waxy substance produced by glands in the skin of the outer ear canal. Earwax protects the ear from bacteria, water, and foreign particles. Usually, excess wax is removed from the ear canal naturally when a small amount of wax accumulates and then dries up and falls out of the ear canal, carrying with it unwanted dust and other particles. It also assists in the cleaning and lubrication of the ear canal. The wax coats the skin of the ear canal where it acts as a temporary water repellent. The absence of ear wax can lead to dry, itchy ears, pain, and infections.
